Side Trips

The city of Acapulco is a vibrant and colorful city that has a lot to offer to the visitor. However, if you want to experience a little more than the usual city activities, you can certainly do some of these wonderful Acapulco side trips.

The closest side trips to Acapulco, less than 10 miles north, are Pie de la Cuesta and Coyuca Lagoon. They each envoke a feeling of a completely different world than Acapulco. This world is one that has not accepted the hectic, modern way of life.

Pie de la Cuesta

In Pie de la Cuesta you will find a 20 mile long stretch of beach famous for its incredible sunsets, palapa style restaurants and funky motels that line the coast.

Coyuca Lagoon

Located on the other side of the peninsula, Coyuca Lagoon is a 28 sq mile natural fresh water lagoon. This area is one of the most picturesque parts of Acapulco, famous for its tropical vegetation and location for many Hollywood films.

Taxco

Taxco, known as the silver capital of the world is one of Mexico’s unique cities. It has retained its quaint and picture perfect characteristic which makes this Acapulco side trip worth the 4 hour drive from Acapulco. The city has many unique shops, cafes, inns, and bed & breakfasts to make your trip truly memorable.

Xochicalco

Xochicalco is a well preserved Mayan ruin complete with a fortified settlement. The pyramids, a fusion of the Mesoamerica cultures (Aztec, Toltec and Maya), can be seen among the 12 principal structures in this archaeological expedition. The ruins are about a 4 hour drive from Acapulco. Tours are available daily.
